Rising from the ashes: On turning another year older and beginning again

Another birthday arrives and with it, the invitation to pause, reflect, and honour the path that has carried me here.

If you had told me a couple of years ago where I would be standing today, I might have smiled at the improbability of it all. Back in 2024, retrenchment arrived as a sudden turning point for me. What seemed at first like disruption became, in time, a recalibration. Nearly two years of untangling, unlearning, pausing, and re-centering revealed that life had not taken me off course, it had simply returned me to my own.

In order to move forward, I chose to let the old structures burn, not in bitterness but in gratitude. In the space that followed, I discovered practices that anchor me: wellness rituals, sensory grounding, natural scents, and the joy of being fully present.

Alongside these, I found myself returning to writing, not only as a craft, but as a release, an escape, and a way of shaping my own voice. Writing about the things I love, and the opinions I hold, has become another form of pleasure: a reminder that honest expression itself is a kind of freedom.

Growth, I learned, does not have to be heavy. Sometimes rising from the ashes is not about loss, but about how liberating it feels to begin again.

As I step into this new personal year, I carry forward a simple knowing: joy is not something we outgrow, it is something we reclaim. Life has a way of making us forget how bright we can shine, but we get to choose to remember.

Protect the spark that still gets you excited. Honour the ideas that make your eyes light up. Say a wholehearted yes to the possibilities that move your spirit. Wear that vibrant colour. Live fully awake, curious, and unhurried, because the world was never meant for us to blend quietly into the background.

So here is my birthday toast: to wonder, to renewal, and to the courage of beginning again.

The most meaningful version of your life begins the moment you stop dimming your light and step into the joy that was always meant to be yours. ✨

(And remember, cake is always a valid coping mechanism. šŸŽ‚)
